Gemma Mendez-Smith – HMA Director

Gemma Mendez-Smith joined the HMA Board of Directors at the 2020 HMA Annual General Meeting. Gemma is the Executive Director of the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, an Associate Member of the HMA.

Gemma joined the HMA Board of Directors “to solidify our partnership with the Huron Manufacturing Association through support and collaborative activities to improve the work around the workforce supply chain”. The Four County Labour Market Planning Board plays a leadership role in the development of innovative labour market strategies.

The FCLM Planning Board accomplishes its mandate by working collaboratively with business, workforce and community organizations to plan and initiate projects and programs that address the specific needs of workforce development in Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth counties. “For over 20 years we have been delivering sound, reliable reports and direction in the development of skill sets of the local population. With this information, we have been able to offer strategic options for businesses to succeed. We are able to work with business and community groups to address their most pressing concerns. This allows us to help develop a strong and vibrant future outlook” says Gemma.

Gemma joined the FCLM Planning Board as an administrative assistant in 2001. With a coach that saw her potential and provided guidance, she was able to take training that led to her promotion as Executive Director in 2007. Her motto is to “Stay in a learning mode as you never know where it will lead you.”

Gemma has been married for 30 years and has 4 children. She and her spouse love Canadian road trips and can’t wait to be on the road again once COVID-19 releases its grip. Gemma also volunteers with the Zonta Club of Owen Sound Volunteers at several local events and charities.

Gemma contributes her time and extremely valuable knowledge about the manufacturing labour market to the HMA Board. She is a wonderful addition to the HMA Board of Directors and its initiatives.
